Five Valley-Edinburg FCCLA members, their adviser Mrs. Lori Fingarson, and chaperone Hayley Fingarson joined more than 10,500 students, advisers and guests at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL from July 4-7. Their main focus was competing in national STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events with over 5,500 other competitors. Our FCCLA members had an outstanding performance on a national stage, showing proficiency and achievement in their projects while developing real world skills such as collaboration with varied stakeholders, public speaking, and project management. We are proud to report that Christine and Raelyn received a gold medal and 4th place in the NATION in the Focus on Children, Level 3 category! They have spent the past school year educating others about Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) and fundraising so teachers can obtain classroom items that will help support students with RAD. Greta, Angelina and Emily received a gold medal and 2nd place in the NATION in the Chapter Service Project Display, Level 3 category. They led the V-E chapter in fundraising and collecting donations for the Pregnancy Help Center (PHC), volunteered at the PHC, and focused on spreading awareness of PHC services. In addition to competing the group attended the opening ceremonies, national officer speeches, business meeting, the ND state meeting, the EXPO and student workshops. In their free time they went to Universal Studios and Cocoa Beach. Congratulations to these FCCLA members for their outstanding representation of Valley-Edinburg School and North Dakota!
