April has come and gone, and that means it's time for the monthly Valley-Edinburg School District Newsletter! 🌱☀️🌱https://secure.smore.com/n/2dema

District voters have REJECTED both the debt limit increase (Question One) and $15.2 million bond referendum (Question Two) for our schools. This means our district will not be able to complete the improvements outlined in the referendum plan. Reported vote totals:
Question One: 180 Yes 455 No
Question Two: 174 Yes 463 No
We respect the decision made by our community. Our district will continue to explore ways to address the challenges of our current school buildings. Thank you to everyone who made their voice heard in this election!

We’re proud to celebrate our April Students of the Month for showing outstanding optimism! 🌟 These students brighten our halls with their positive outlooks, encouraging attitudes, and belief that every day is a chance to grow and do better. Way to go, April honorees—your optimism is contagious, and we’re so proud of you! 💛

Happy Election Day, Titans!
Stop by any of the three gymnasiums between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to cast your vote in the referendum for our schools. A reminder of what's on the ballot:
1️⃣ Question One asks voters to vote "Yes" or "No" to an increase to our district's debt limit to accommodate the referendum plan.
2️⃣ Question Two asks voters to vote "Yes" or "No" on a $15.2 million investment plan that would move all students into the Hoople and Edinburg buildings, complete needed maintenance, and fund comprehensive improvements to our learning spaces and grounds.
Both questions require approval from at least 60% of voters to pass.
Please remember to be kind and respectful to the election judges who volunteer their time to make sure our local elections run smoothly. If you have questions about voting or any other aspect of the referendum, please visit TitansForTomorrow.com.

What a fantastic evening we had at last week's Celebration of Readers Night at Hoople Elementary! Our students and families had a blast with book bingo, explored the stations of each emotion with a fun scavenger hunt, and fun with our amazing guest author, Dr. Erin Peterson, who shared her wonderful book with us.
A huge thank you to our incredible PTO for providing a meal and to all the volunteers who helped serve and make the night extra special for our families. Another shout out and thank you to CCRE who once again sponsored a bike drawing for our students - four lucky Tiny Titans went home with a gift certificate for a new bike! It was a great celebration of reading, community, and fun!

Tomorrow is Election Day! Make your plans to visit any of the three school gymnasiums between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to cast your ballot in the Titans For Tomorrow referendum. Check out this great fundraising opportunity!

Q. Are tax credits available to help with the costs of taxes for the referendum if it is approved?
A. Yes! The Primary Residence Credit (PRC) was established during the 2023 Legislative Session and provides North Dakota homeowners with the option to apply for a property tax credit through the North Dakota Office of State Tax Commissioner. Homeowners with an approved application may receive up to a $500 credit against their 2025 property tax obligation. To be eligible for the credit, you must own a home (house, mobile home, townhome, duplex, or condo) in North Dakota, and reside in it as your primary residence. There are no age restrictions or income limitations for this credit. Only one Primary Residence Credit is available per household.

Congratulations to the seven FCCLA members who represented Valley-Edinburg at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference held in Bismarck April 6-8 ! Raylie served as a timer for STAR events. Kristen and Raylie also had additional duties as chapter voting delegates to determine new state officers and any other business needing a vote. V-E also had two teams in the competitive portion of FCCLA called STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition). Both teams were judged by a panel of 3 people - a FCS teacher from a North Dakota school, a North Dakota business leader or community member and a student judge using rubrics with 23 to 30 criteria evaluating their project boards and oral presentations. Raelyn and Christine competed against 8 teams from high schools across North Dakota, They received a gold rating and a top score to qualify for nationals. Their project was in the Focus on Children category and involved educating others, especially teachers, about Reactive Attachment Disorder as well as fundraising for SAVY. Emily, Greta and Angelina also competed with 8 teams from across North Dakota in the Chapter Service Project category. The chapter service project goal was to educate others about and collect supplies for the Pregnancy Help Center. They received a silver rating and a top score that qualified for competition at nationals. The National Leadership Conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from July 5-9. Stay tuned for many fundraising efforts from these teams!

The 2025-2026 Valley-Edinburg School Calendar has been finalized and is now posted on the school website. Find it under "School Calendar" in the far right corner of the home page! https://www.valley-edinburgk12.com/page/school-calendar

Q. What happens if the referendum is rejected?
A. If the referendum is rejected, our district will continue to operate all three buildings, but will increasingly struggle with the higher costs and inefficiencies of doing so. We will not be able to provide our students with equitable learning spaces and address our most critical building needs.
Our district could consider investments again in the future, but completing the same improvements proposed by this plan would cost significantly more due to rising construction costs. Even if our district pursued a cheaper plan, it would still require a voter-referendum.
You can find more questions and answers about the upcoming referendum at TitansForTomorrow.com/faqs
