Mrs. Fingarson’s Culinary Arts students have had a great semester! One highlight was the Gonzalez family sharing how to prepare Espagueti Verde (Green Spaghetti). Next was Susan, Kelli and Lucy Vivatson donating potatoes and teaching us how to make traditional Norwegian lefse. Students loved connecting with these volunteers, gaining both cooking skills and cultural insight. During December the students gained real world catering experience when preparing the augratin potatoes for the yearbook fundraiser meal and the bar cookies for the 7-12 grade Christmas concert!

If our PK-6 Christmas concert must be postponed due to stormy weather tomorrow, Thursday, December 19, please indicate in the survey link below which time would be best for your family's schedule. We will try our best to accommodate the best we can if we must postpone. Please keep in mind that we have lot to work around in order to make this concert work. We've already heard from a number of families that Saturday is full of family Christmases, affecting students, families, and staff. On Friday night we have a double-header, boys and girls basketball JV and Varsity games in Park River, also affecting both student families and staff. Our PK-2 grade students are scheduled to go to a movie at the Lyric Theater on Friday morning, and the earliest they would be able to perform is 2PM. Please keep in mind, also, that bussing will need to be adjusted when we know the potentially rescheduled concert time. As you can see, finding a time that will work for everyone's schedule is going to be difficult. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Again, this is all in anticipation of not being able to have school tomorrow. If we are able to go to school, we will perform at 7PM as scheduled in Crystal. https://forms.gle/qGhpeNnMrcd4YLmc9

In our 6th-grade classroom, each day students engage in reading stations tailored to meet their individual learning needs and pace. This small-group setting allows students to focus on specific skills from our reading curriculum, IntoReading while they collaborate with peers, and engage with reading materials while working on independence and time management. Today, our 6th graders are meeting with their teacher for a direct lesson on synonyms and antonyms as well as figurative language! These targeted lessons not only enhance vocabulary but also build critical thinking and creativity in understanding text. For parents interested in learning more about the standards guiding our instruction, we encourage you to visit our school website under Documents. There, you'll find detailed all elementary ELA and Math standards for each grade, providing insight into the skills and concepts your child is mastering throughout the year.

Our 3rd grade students had a special guest visitor today! Gerald Byron came to visit and gifted us with the book "Grandpas White Cane." Our students learned all about the white cane and had excellent questions for Gerald - it was a great experience for our aspiring authors!

Look at these hardworking, engaged 2nd graders during reading time today! At Hoople Elementary for grades K-2, we use Reading Mastery as our core reading curriculum. This program has a long history of success in helping students develop strong foundational reading skills and confidence as readers. What is Reading Mastery? Reading Mastery is a research-based, systematic approach to teaching reading. It is designed to guide students step-by-step through the essential components of literacy, including: Phonics and Decoding: Teaching students how to sound out words and recognize patterns. Fluency: Helping students read with accuracy, speed, and expression. Comprehension: Encouraging students to understand and think critically about what they read. Why Reading Mastery Works The program uses direct instruction, which means lessons are carefully sequenced and structured to ensure students build skills gradually and successfully. This approach minimizes frustration while maximizing learning by presenting concepts clearly and providing plenty of practice and feedback. How It Supports All Learners Reading Mastery includes differentiated instruction, allowing teachers to meet the needs of students at various skill levels. Whether students are just beginning their reading journey or need extra support, the curriculum provides tools to ensure every learner makes progress. Ask your child what they learned about in Reading Mastery each day!
